Received this on Facebook from Jim's ex-wife Marcy Kaminski

Jim Yeager (AHS Class of 1965) passed away last night, 1/30/23, in Virginia.  He was a brilliant and complex man, fluent in multiple languages and a world traveler.  He was a passionate Democrat, lifelong St. Louis Cardinals fan, avid golfer and lover of dogs.  I was married to Jim for ten years and he was the father of my two children - Gretchen Yeager Madrigal and James "Craig" Yeager.  It is with a heavy heart full of memories that I wish Jim great peace at last.

Ralph Dickerson Jr. Former president and CEO of the United Way of New York City died peacefully last Sunday morning.

Ralph Dickerson is known for his success in the nonprofit world in the United States, and his passion for community activities was born in 1947 and grew up in Illinois.

Mother was a teacher at the University of Illinois, and Ralph worked for Ogden Corporation and McDonnell Douglas, and New York United Way. Ralph Dickerson Jr. Was recognized in so many ways for his commitment to service to the community and his success in various positions in the nonprofit world. He served honorably as the president and CEO of United Way of New York City from May 1988 to the year 2005.

As president of the United Way of New York City, he led the organization into a position of being the largest private funder of health and human services in New York City as a major force in forging a bold new solution to the city’s most critical human care challenges. Under his leadership United Way of New York City’s revenue grew from 7.5 million to 135 million, making it the largest united way in the nation.

In addition, United Way of New York City has used its extensive knowledge of community-based human services agencies to broker and partner with government, foundations, and businesses in a groundbreaking initiative that has successfully addressed the city’s human care issue and the high dropout rate.

Ralph Dickerson, held a key executive position for 30 years in local United Ways, including St. Louise, Missouri, Madison, Wisconsin, Cleveland, Ohio, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

He holds a BS in business administration, and he received an MBA from the University of Wisconsin. Ralph has served as a director with several civic and corporate organizations and has received a new university award, an honorary degree. He was also inducted into the Alpha Kappa Psi Honorable Business fraternity.

Upon leaving the United Nation of New York City, Ralph took on the position of president and CEO of the Abyssinian Development Corporation, organized by Abyssinian Baptist Church under Reverend Calvin Butts to serve the housing needs of the Harlem community, one of the largest housing development organizations. Ralph served in that position for several years to bring stability to an institution that was providing critical service to the neighborhood of Harlem.

He has served on several boards and has been an active investor in several local developments and corporations and is known and admired throughout the community. He leaves behind his partner, Ms. Lisa Crutchfield, son, Ralph Dickerson, the third, and several grandchildren. To mourn arrangements once determined will be published in this space.

RIP to Ralph D. On a lighter note,  Ralph, David Wall and myself were all in football together and after the season ended we would all  go out for track, mainly to stay in some kind of shape. Mr. Johnson was in charge of us and would spend many hours making us run laps in the main halls, up and down the stairs and thru the halls. Their legs were longer than mine and ofcource I was always dead last regardless how hard I tried. It did help me stay in shape. Sorry to see you go Ralph but those were the days!

Thank you for remembering my birthday.  Thank you to all who maintain and support this website.  I am grateful to God for all He has done for me these 76 years.  This is a recent photo of me coming in from a date with my wife.  This is a weekly practice we have continued throughout our nearly 55 years together.  We continue in our ministry of helping pastors and encouraging churches.  I have worked with about two dozen churches and three conferences.  I preach, lead congregational singing and provide special music.  Currently we are busy every Sunday with about five churches.  I have preached at one country church regularly since 2018.  Some weeks I preach at two churches with the country church graciously moving their service to an earlier time to accommodate my help to a sister church a few miles away.  We hope to attend three conferences this year in Attleboro, MA, North Conway, NH and Utica, NY.  At two I will be the congregational song leader.  At one I will be doing four workshops again on Baptist History.  One of the leaders who promoted missions among Baptist churches in the early 19th century was Luther Rice.  In his itinerant campaigns to the churches he influenced John Mason Peck of Litchfield, CT, to be a home missionary.  Peck started in St. Louis, but because of bigotry he moved to St. Clair County and later Madison County.  Peck had the audacity to teach Sunday School classes to all children together regardless of race.  He started what became known as Shurtleff College in Alton, IL.  He started the Upper Alton Baptist Church.  When Marilyn and I drove through Alton in June of 1999 to go to a conference in Kansas City, MO, we stopped to see Marjorie B. Carter on Elm Street.  She had been the head teacher at the Garfield School.  She was so proud of her many students who had earned gold and silver alphas and other awards and achievements.  I’ll mention only the late Jim Yeager and the late Elaine Anderson.  Elaine’s father, Rev. Orrin M. Anderson, gave the invocation and the benediction at our graduation.  Back to Mrs. Carter, I asked her to remind me how she knew my mother (died 1982).  There was a Sunday School teacher at the Upper Alton Baptist Church by the name of Reed (as in Peggy) or Reid (as in Donna or Tom).  I have a Directory of Upper Alton Baptist Church, 1923.  Two possibilities are listed:  Helen I. Reed, 2000 Washington Ave. or Mrs. DeL. Reid, 3126 Leverett Ave. (wife of Dr. DeL. Reid).  At any rate, according to Mrs. Carter this teacher had a great influence upon many young women introducing them to Jesus Christ and challenging them to the highest ideals in life.  Mrs. Carter knew my mother, Leora Bauer, from Mrs. Reid’s class.  If anyone knows more about this lady, Reed or Reid, I would like to know.
