Alford to receive Service Above Self award
- By Doug Jenkins - WBGZ RadioThe Alton Godfrey Rotary Club has only given out the Service Above Self Award 9 times in the club’s more than 100-year history. This year will see the award given to a long-time community volunteer and current head of the Grandpa Gang, Dick Alford.
Alton Godfrey Rotary Club spokesman John Hopkins tells The Big Z Alford has an impressive history of a lifetime of service to the community.
The award will be presented at a dinner on October the 20th at 6pm at the Best Western Premier Hotel in Alton. Proceeds from the event will be used by the Rotary to fund scholarship programs, including Student of the Year and the Moyer Scholarship for students enrolled in industrial career programs at Lewis and Clark Community College. Tickets are on sale now, and sponsorship opportunities are available.
Tickets are $50 a piece, table of 8 for $400.
