My brother went on that honor flight September 9th.  He said it was a wonderful experience.  Any veteran should consider it.  Glad you got to participate Martin.

Thank you Janis for sharing Tom' obit. I remember when you and Tom dated. He was smart but could lose interest in what he was doing. He delved into the underground railroad for a time and had the notes for a doctorate but didn't persue it. He could be funny and was never at a lose for words. At East Jr. Mr St Peters caught him talking too much. There was 20 minutes left in the class and Mr St. Peters made Tom stand and talk till the end fo class. He never missed a beat. He and Ron Selkirk were good friends and played tennis together. I was Tom's sidekick when he was goiing through his fast car faze.We roamed the streets in his GTO, Jag and GT 500. He came to Kirksville for a while when Selkirk and I were there . He was deep into religon before he lost interest and transfered to U of Texas where his  brother Jay lived. We played city league football. A fun fact I'll share is I went with Tom to Texas when he was getting his belongings from his brothers. On our way back we saw two guys hitchhicking. we picked them up. They were both from South America and only spoke spanish. Neither of us spoke much spanish but we learned to comunicate They wanted to see the Land of Lincoln on their way to Canada to live with a sister. We drove all the way back to Tom's mom Pearl,s house. She fixed them supper, Tom rummaged in his closet to find them some cloths and then had the bright idea of driving them up to Springfield. When we got there Tom went into the police station and explained their situation. The police said that wasn't a problem because there was aYMCA across the street. We drove back to Alton proud of our accomplishment and that was the end of our BIG adventure! RIP Tom. I'll remember the good times. If i can find his wife's address, I'll contact her. I know she was a nurse.Thsnk you wonce again Janis.

What a great story Rick about Tom Sherwood.  He sold me a life insurance policy from Primerica years ago which I still have.  He also sold me one for my daughter Jennifer in late 80's.   When I lost her in 1992 it certainly helped.

Have to throw in my Tommy Sherwood memories, since he was a fellow Uptown kid. In these two 6th grade Mexican Festival pinata pics from Horace Mann, he is in top pic 2nd from right with Doug McCormick. Yes, his big mouth often got him in trouble--I remember once he made me cry when he told me I needed to shave my legs... But everyone liked him, and he added fun to every day at school.
