Karen Schelle Cannady obituary 

On Monday, May 15th, 2023 the sun set on Karen Cannady, of Jacksonville, FL.

Karen, was a beloved; Mother, Grandmother, friend, and active Parishioner of St. Patrick Catholic Church. Her presence brightened the lives of those around her and touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on the world.

Karen was born on January 24, 1947, in Alton, Illinois, to Charlotte and Robert “Shine” Schelle, at St. Anthony’s Hospital.   She was a pillar of strength and a beacon of kindness and love throughout her life.  She grew up with a profound appreciation for family values, which she carried with her until her final days.  She had an unwavering devotion to her three children, Melissa (Jeff) Duncan, Tony Wright, and Charlotte Irons and her eight adoring grandchildren; Jeffrey (Brittany) Waters, Jonathon (Kenzi) White, Shane “Butch” Irons, Harley and Shaylee Morrill, Charlie Wright, Tucker and Daphne Duncan. Along with great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Robert “Butch” Schelle and Betty Mans, and her husband Donald Cannady, of 33 years.

Karen was involved in many organizations including but not limited too; Junior Achievement, Alton Ski Club, Job’s Daughters, Daughters of the American Revolution, Right to Life, and St. Patrick’s Women’s Council.  She found immense solace and purpose in her faith, and her unwavering commitment to her church community was an inspiration to all who knew her. Whether it was organizing charitable initiatives, volunteering her time, or lending a compassionate ear, she made a significant impact through her involvement in the church and school.

In addition to her deep religious roots, Karen had a vibrant personality that touched the lives of many.  She possessed a natural warmth and a radiant smile that could light up any room.  Her love for her family was unparalleled, and she created countless beautiful memories with her children and grandchildren cherishing every moment spent together, ensuring that her home was a sanctuary of love, laughter, and togetherness. Karen's departure leaves an immense void in the lives of her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. She will be dearly missed but forever remembered for her selfless love, grace, and generosity.

The viewing will be held on Thursday, May 18th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church from 6 pm – 8 pm.  A funeral service to celebrate the life of Karen will be held at 11 am on Friday, May 19th, at St. Patrick Catholic Church at 601 Airport Center Drive East, Jacksonville, FL 32218, with Pastor Father Liguori presiding. In Lieu of Flowers, Karen has requested that donations be made to St. Patrick’s Church. Karen will be going home for her final resting place, burial services will be provided by Upper Alton Cemetery at 10 am on Friday, July 7, 2023. Father Chris Uhl, OMV from St. Mary's Catholic Church will be officiating.
