Barry Johns

Barry Wayne “Cakes” Johns, 73, of Sesser passed away Wednesday morning, July 7, 2021.

He was born in Alton, IL on October 7, 1947, the son of Calvin Earl & Helen Naidene (Ramsey) Johns.

Mr. Johns was a Vietnam Army Veteran, and proudly served from August 1968 thru May of 1971.  He was Past Post Commander of the Sesser VFW.  He loved golfing, fishing, hanging out with his friends at the VFW and watching Lucas play ball.

Mr. Johns is survived by his:

Son: Jason W. Johns and grandson, Lucas D. Johns

Daughter: Lindsey Galligan & husband Rory and grandson, A.J. Galligan

3 Brothers: Danny Johns (Carol)

                      Randy Johns (Rebecca)

                      Scott Johns (Jean)

Nephews & Nieces: Patrick (Stacy), Stephanie (Steve), Lauren, Sam (Makenzie)

Former Spouse & special friend: Patricia Johns

Special Caregivers: Brandy & Alyssa

Mr. Johns was preceded in death by his Parents, a son, Adam Lucas Johns, 2 brothers, Terry Lynn Johns and Steven Lee “Bickit” Johns, and a nephew, Jimmee Johns.

Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. to 11:45 A.M. Wednesday, July 14th at the Morton & Johnston Funeral Home in Benton.  Graveside Military Rites will be conducted by the Sesser VFW at Ewing Cemetery at 12 Noon on Wednesday.

Wayland L. Britt

Barry and I played alot of little league baseball together.  He was the best little leage pitcher I ever saw.  I watch a lot of little leage these days (grandson), Coached my kids etc.  But Im still waiting to see a pitcher as good as Barry.  His dad, Cal was one of my softball heros as well.

So long Barry, See you on the Field of Dreams.
