Andy graduated from the University of Illinois then obtained a two masters degrees, Art History and Library Science. He went on to work in the library system at the University of Washington in Seattle for over 30 years. Andy was an avid gardener. His backyard was a retreat in the heart of the city where he grew vegetables and beautiful ornamentals. He was also a wonderful cook who loved to try new recipes.

We lost another classmate--Charles Wyatt.

Charles Wyatt Bonds, “Snooky” was born on May 29, 1947 in Alton, Illinois. He was the son of Charles Wyatt and Valaree (Bonds) Johnson. Charles transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 28, 2025. He was blessed with 77 years.

Charles grew up in Alton and was educated in the Alton School District. He was baptized at St. John Missionary Baptist Church once the church relocated from Maupin Ave. to Market Street in Alton. He attended Texas Southern University, and returned to Alton to start his family and career.

He married Frances (Reed) Bonds in 1968 and had two children. He also had another child with Barbara Weeden. He remarried later in life to Miranda Owens around 1995 and Margarita Moore in 2004.

In his youth, Charles enjoyed shooting pool and riding motorcycles. He was a member of a motorcycle club, and started working for Shell Oil Refinery in Wood River, Illinois, where he was employed for many years.

Later in life, Charles worked for IBM located at Boeing in St. Louis, Missouri until his retirement. He leaves to cherish his memory, a daughter Rosalyn (Bonds) Collins of Alton, Illinois; a son Michael (Rachael) Bonds of Madison, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Kiyree Collins Sr., Kiyasia Collins, Allen (Lindsey) Turner, Sheila (Derek) Martin, Micah Bonds, Ryanne Bonds, David-Michael Bonds; four great grandchildren, Kiyree Collins Jr., Hudson Turner, Kennedy Martin, Leo Martin; five sisters, Dorothy Young of Conyers, Georgia; Vivette Johnson of Alton, Illinois; Melonee Johnson of Ferguson, Missouri; Carole (William) Cole of Raleigh, North Carolina; Debra Wyatt of Evanston, Illinois; twobrothers David Wyatt of Alton, Illinois; Pete (Wanda) Wyatt of Creve Coeur, Missouri; aunt Rita Bonds of Alton, Illinois; special mother Clara Wyatt of Alton, Illinois and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones and friends.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Wyatt and Valaree Johnson; son Charles David Bonds; sister-in-law Sharon Wyatt and special daughter Candace Owens.

Visitation Friday February 7, 2025 from 10:00 A.M. until time of service at 11:00 A.M. at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church 405 E 4th St. Alton, IL 62002 with burial to follow at Upper Alton Cemetery in Alton, Illinois.

Cathy M. Williams and Sons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
