Mary "Timmy" Ella Heil
Alton - Mary Ella (Hayes) Heil, 73, of Alton passed away Thursday, May 30, 2024 at 3:27 PM with her sons by her side at St. Louis University Hospital. She was born August 28, 1950 in Alton, the daughter of Robert and Edna Hayes. She married Timothy Lynn Heil on February 25, 1972, in Alton, he preceded her in death on December 20, 2000. Surviving is her son, Seth Heil (and his wife, Angelina McLaughlin-Heil and their sons, Timothy and Henry) of Highland, Illinois, and her son, Zachary Heil, of St. Louis, Missouri; siblings, Jane Martin (and her husband Rick), of Florence, Kentucky, and Robert "Buddy" Hayes, of Alton, Illinois; niece Meghan Martin-Walker (and her husband James Walker, and their daughters, Hadley and Harper), of Union, Kentucky; her niece, Elizabeth Heil, and nephews Aaron and Matthew Heil; her cousin and life-long friend, Debbie Cato; her close friend and sister-in-law Donna Heil; and close life-long friends Carol Green and Debbie Kious. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Timothy Lynn Heil and godmother, Jeanette Massey. After graduating Alton High School, Mary became a licensed cosmetologist, a profession she worked in for nearly the remainder of her life, in which she met and befriended many people due to her friendly and welcoming disposition. She also worked for her church, Calvary Baptist in Alton, and worked for many years and retired from K-Mart. Throughout her life she volunteered and cared for the elderly community, including decades dedicated to her many friends at Skyline Towers in Alton. Mary loved the St. Louis Cardinals, movies, sunflowers and loved to sing along and listen to Nat King Cole and "Mama Mia". Mary was humorous and full of laughter and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was well loved and known as "Timmy", by friends and family, as "Mimi" by her great-nieces, and as "my mom", by her son's ward, Mark Bettlach. She was kind, caring and strong throughout her life, especially in her final battle with heart and lung disease. She lived a full life creating fond memories with family and her many friends and she will be dearly missed. A memorial has been arranged for Saturday June 15, 2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Alton, 1422 Washington Ave. 9:00 AM: visitation, 10:00 AM: service.
