We have lost another classmate - Richard Lee White.  My condolences to his family.  

Richard Lee White
Alton - Richard Lee White, 76, died at 6:10 p.m. Monday, December 5, 2022 at Christian Hospital in St. Louis, MO. Born June 16, 1946 in Alton, he was the son of Archie B. and Viola (Hayes) White. Mr. White served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was a member of the Franklin Masonic Lodge #25. He retired as a machinist for Olin Brass after 41 ½ years of service. On May 18, 1991 he married the former Roberta K. Wallace in Godfrey. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Justin R. White (Christy) of Godfrey and Jeremy White of Edwardsville, and two grandchildren, Gabe and James White. Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2022 at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors. Memorials may be made to Paralyzed Veterans of America. Jane Ann Cogan
Jane Ann Cogan, 76, died at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Bria Nursing Home in Godfrey.
She was born June 4, 1946 in Alton the daughter of the late William and Betty (Lee) Skelton. She retired as a clerk after many years at Schnucks Grocery Store in Godfrey. On December 26, 1964 at St. Patrick's Church in Alton she married Frank J. Cogan, and he preceded her in death on March 31, 2011. Surviving are one daughter, Melissa Cogan of Alton one son, Robert J. Cogan (Suzanne) of Alton, three grandchildren, Kate Cogan, Sam Cogan and Max Cogan all of Alton and three sisters, Sally Spagnola (Vic) of Godfrey, Cindy Voorhess (Ronnie) of Alton and Peggy Price (Steve) of Alton. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Merry TrTanj and one brother, David Skelton. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Father Steven Janoski will officiate. Private burial at Joseph's Cemetery in Alton. Memorials may be made to Marquette Catholic High School or The Parkinson's Foundation. James Harrison Killion III
Alton - James Harrison Killion III, 78, of St. Louis, strong family man, visionary leader, and community advocate, transitioned on December 5, 2022. Born in Alton, Illinois on May 8, 1944, he was the firstborn child of the late James Harrison Killion, Jr. and Hazel Walker Killion.
James (Jim, Jimmy) was educated in the Alton Public School System and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. Killion enjoyed a dynamic career in sales as Vice President at Maritz, LLC and held executive positions at General Electric Capital IT Solutions and Xerox Corporation.
Jim championed human and civil rights through his engagement in numerous boards including the Miles Davis Memorial Project. He was also a founding member and president of the Friends of the 60's/Alton Black Alumni Association, a Life and Golden member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. and a member of Trinity A.M. E. Church in Alton, Illinois. His honors include the Alton High School Distinguished Alumni Award, Elijah P. Lovejoy Human Rights Award and he is featured in Who's Who in Black St. Louis.
In 2022, Jim published a book of letters written by his father, James Harrison Killion Jr., during World War II, entitled "A Black Soldier's Letters Home", co-edited with Eugene Jones Baldwin. Killion's efforts resulted in the letters being archived in the renowned National World War II Museum in New Orleans, Louisiana.
James Harrison Killion lll is survived by Darla, his loving and devoted wife; children, James Harrison IV (Kamarrah), Kimya Ware, Corey Brownlee, Morganne Brownlee, Erin Thompson; grandchildren, Sasha, Harrison, Zachary, Elyse, Alana, Devin and Cherrish.
He also leaves to cherish his memories, sisters, Carol Killion Hudson, Dr. Cheryl Killion, and Michele Killion Keeper; nieces and nephew, Erica Hudson, Nikole Boykin (Wade), Mitchell Keeper, Jr, and Myla Keeper Williams; great nephews, Wade IV, Nelson and Karter.
A celebration of life will be held beginning at 10:00 am on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at Greater St. James Missionary Baptist Church, 2016 Belle Street, Alton, IL 62002.

Our condolences to our classmate Vicky Adams Nemec on the death of her sister Carol Adams Stevenson.

 

Carol Lynn (Adams) Stevenson
Godfrey - Carol Lynn (Adams) Stevenson, 69, died at 12:18 p.m. Tuesday, December 20, 2022 at OSF St. Anthony's Healthcare Center. Born December 14, 1953 in Alton, she was the daughter of the late Juanita (Ritchey) and Homer M. Adams. She married David M. Stevenson on May 19, 1973 in Alton. He survives. Carol was a member of River of Life Church in Godfrey. She had a deep and sustaining Christian faith in Jesus. She was a dedicated mother and wife who loved to cook and entertain for friends and family. She loved deeply and always had a compassionate, listening ear. Along with her husband, David, she is survived by a daughter, Natalie Stevenson Merrill of Godfrey (her husband, Cole Merrill, passed away in 2018), and their child, Vivian, two sons, Chad Stevenson (Megan) of Godfrey, and their children, Macy, Lexi, Reid, and Paige, and Cody Stevenson (Nicole) of Godfrey, and their children, Finnley, Oliver, and Isla, a sister, Vicky (Adams) Nemec (Dr. Edward Nemec) of Godfrey, two brothers, Scott Adams (Lori) of Alton, and Matt Adams (Susan) of Chesterfield. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022. Pastor Roger Bruce will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. Memorials may be made to the Community Hope Center. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
